Shea Hembrey Biennial

August 4, 2011 Shea Hembrey Biennial

If you are not familiar with TED, it is an is a nonprofit organisation devoted to ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’. It started out (in 1984) as a ‘conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design.’ Since then it has developed a huge online presence which they use as a ‘clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other’. An amazing platform to share inspiration and a refreshing change from watching trashy TV in the evenings.

The lastest lecture I watched was by Shea Hembrey, an American artist who has created a Biennial called ‘SEEK’ made up of the work of 100 artists all of whom are himself. He creates the work and identities of each artist including names and a biography, one hundred times. It’s fascinating stuff and definately worth a look at his site and if you have time watch his TED talk.
